30 Artworks to Elevate your Mid-Century Modern Living Room

The mid-century modern interior was never really about minimalism. It was about warmth: walnut and teak, caramel leather, brass, glass, wool, and a palette of olive, rust, mustard, cream, and charcoal. Against all that structure, art brings the room its personality.

Look for paintings that share the period's love of strong shape and confident colour, but don't be afraid of contrast. A geometric abstract can pick up the rhythm of a credenza or tapered leg; a landscape can open the room beyond its walls; a still life can soften all that wood and leather. The best pieces feel inevitable once they are there.
